Wow! I can’t believe we made it through alive. What is that old saying? “Eveything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” Well I think that sums up the first 20 minutes of round two last night perfectly. But alas, after switching to uStream and then back (again) to tinychat we got the ball rolling. And while I still think it was a poor start, once we got underway I feel that we really improved over last time. From the quality of the questions to the flow of the conversation, and everyone on the panel seemed to be more comfortable and in tune with each other.

Thank You’s

None of this would be possible without you, the creative community. So a huge thanks to all of you out there supporting us on twitter, facebook and blogs. We are here to serve you and help bridge the gaps for those who are new and unexperienced to those who have been around the block (a few times).

And of course our panelists. Big props to Aaron Irizarry, Chad Engle, Chris Spooner, Kyle Steed and Niki Brown for taking time to give back and share their working experience and valuable knowledge. They are really leading the way for future designers to learn and grow and understand the importance of sharing freely what you know to help others.

What’s Next

If you tuned in early, and hung around, you probably saw the technical obstacles we ran in to. First off we couldn’t get the video to work on tinychat, which is the main crux of this event, so we were scrambling for a solution. So we tried to switch to uStream but couldn’t get everyone’s audio to work simultaneously, however the video did work. But finally, somehow, the video was working again on tinychat. And even though it wasn’t in the official “Chat Creative” room we just wanted to get the ball rolling. So again, we’re sorry for those of you who had to endure those embarrassing moments, but we’re glad this happened.

Why you ask? Well this experience helped solidify why tinychat is not the right platform for us to use. Not to say that it’s not a good service, it has it’s place, but for our event we need something more stable and have the video hosted server-side. So we’re looking at a few options right now, but one in particular that seems to be promising is Procaster by livestream. With this, along with other updates, we will be able to bring you a more integrated experience not just once a month, but everyday. So keep your eyes peeled for new updates that we have planned over the next month.

Feedback

Thanks to those that have already been giving us feedback. We want to know what you think. We love to hear your comments, and yes even your criticism makes us stronger. If you aren’t following us on twitter, we’re @chatcreative and while you’re at it join Chat Creative on facebook. So keep the love flowing and we look forward to seeing you all next time. Thanks.

We did it. From thought to action, the first session was a huge success.

Thank You’s

First and foremost a thank you to our Sponsor Fuel Brand Network. We are glad they thought we had creative merit and put their name behind us to propel us into the future. A huge thank you to Kyle Steed for doing the leg work, Chris Wallace for all the WP theme help on such short notice, David Leggett for moderating and letting us use his TinyChat Pro account, Design Community Twitter Hours for being in association with us and helping promote.

HUGE THANKS TO everyone else that showed up, RT’d it, blogged it or gave us a thank you or thumbs up. We really appreciate how much support we have received. This was an awesome first stride for having a panel live to answer questions and provide feedback, for you the community. We learn as we do this as well so its a win-win for everyone.

Feedback

We really want to hear from you what you thought and how we can improve. We have our own ideas but we want to hear what the community wants after all this is community driven. Tell us what you want to see, what you would like to see, what you hated. Tell us the truth it helps us grow as a community.

Whats Next?

We are currently working on the next Chat. We are trying to work out some bugs for the next one so please stay tuned via this blog, the twitter account (@chatcreative) We hope you enjoyed this evenings first panel we know we did, and we will see you in the future.

In our efforts to provide quality over quantity, we want to make sure we’re starting off on the right foot. So for each design panel we do we will be focusing on a single topic of discussion. We feel that this way you, the community, will know what to expect from us, and we can better provide you with meaningful content without blabbering on with nonsense.

So for our first design panel this Wednesday we will be focused on discussing the best ways to get started in web/graphic design (both freelancing and in-house). Basically anything is open for discussion; from schooling, websites, best/worst practices, programs, books and more. And don’t think this is just for noobs either, you never know what good tips, tricks or resources you could pick up from us.

Now what we’d like to do is open up the floor for you all to begin sending in your questions now. That way by Wednesday we should have a pretty good idea of where the discussion will lead. Not that we want to script the whole thing out, but think of it as more of an outline (with room for some impromptu conversations). So please either leave your comment below or send them to chatcreative@gmail.com.

Thanks again for all your wonderful support and we look forward to seeing you all there on Wednesday.

Starting out as a young designer I was always looking up to the professionals in the community. But I never thought it was possible to reach out to them and and have them respond to me. I even tried a few times but with no success.

Then twitter came along and knocked the walls down. It opened up the lines of communication for every designer new and old. Even though you still weren’t promised a response from anyone, the transparency of communication was much clearer.

We are now able to spread information farther and faster than ever before. But as twitter continues to grow the marketers and advertisers and celebrities are clogging up the airways. But the great thing about twitter is you get to choose who you follow. And within the design community we want to be a source of quality over quantity. Our goal is to help connect the creative community one chat at a time.

Our first panel will be this Wednesday, July 8 at 6 pm (CST). If you’re not already, please follow us on twitter @chatcreative and join us on Facebook. Also, be sure and check out all the panelists that will be joining me.

Here is a short video explaining a little more about what we want to do here.

Thanks everyone for your support.
